How are you feeling after Seeing 2020 UPSC PRELIMS Results? Express your heart out! 14743 Views

Dear Aspirants,

Seeing the Prelims Result sheet is one of the most exciting and also tough moments for any Serious Aspirant. Because there will be chances that our efforts of the whole year will go in vain even for minor errors or variations in the answer keys of UPSC. If we clear Prelims, we will get a chance to write Mains, the crucial phase of CSE. But if we fail, we will be at square one. We need to start the process once again. Flunking at the first stage of IAS DREAM is the most painful for any aspirant. It would be a tough and testing time in one's life. Everyone will start doubting about us. In fact, we start doubting ourselves, our ability to achieve our Dreams.

Generally, Topper's Stories is being glorified in the UPSC circle. But, We believe everyone has their own unique stories of perseverance and struggles. A person who fails in prelims by one or two marks or bad performance in paper-2 is no less capable than a Topper. Only a matter of bad luck or a bad day on Prelims must have brought you down. You have every capacity to clear this Exam.

We are giving you an open invitation to express yourself here on this platform. Share your story of perseverance and Struggle. We are ready to listen with empathy and compassion. Let's build a positive and constructive community of serious and sincere aspirants.

Thank You Very Much For Such A Detailed Analysis and Advice.I will surely pay
attention to whatever you have mentioned!☺
May Jesus Bless You too!😊

Hi. hope you're good. As we know, the exam has a herculean syllabus and its a three staged exam. We need to figure out previous mistakes in strategy, stop accumulating books, rework on schedule ( which has to be flexible and not rigid otherwise it wont last for long. Dynamic schedules respond to changes happening around us as and when necessitated and also save us from procrastination. )  kindly analyse 2-3 previous year papers ( once a month or two ) to keep prep aligned and avoid random reading. Staying healthy will accelerate learning. Proper sleep of 7-8 hours is also important. 6 days study hard, 7th day rest for mind to get replenished coz too much studies will impact prep in later weeks ( avoid overburdening ).

Setting targets of completing xyz content in 2 hours, half day, 3 days etc and devoting yourself towards your commitments will be beneficial. There are 500 prep sites but sticking to Insights is enough ( check their new daily schedule on site which will help you immensely in prep. ) Revisions are very very helpful. Finishing standard books in no ways guarantees clearing the exam as we have seen the prelims of 2019 and 2020 where its a wild gamble through the mcq's. Hence i would suggest practicing atleast 30-50 mcq's per day so by the time we appear for the exam, our mind gets so well trained in attempting questions through practice and  elimination-technique that we don't have to raise the stakes on guess work. we may also start writing answers ( 2-3 ) daily on Insights secure + peer review is quintessential because we learn more through reviewing answers. Prelims is just the entry ticket to Mains and merit depends on Mains hence even if we do clear prelims, we would not want to be in a confused state during the 3 months prior to Mains. If consistency and discipline are broken, the world has not ended. It is alright coz we are humans but learn from that as well but this should not translate into casual/lackadaisical approach and negligence. If we fall 10 times, lets stand up again for the 11th time. Every hour spent with sincerity will fructify the greater goals. It is not about how many hours we spent, rather how well we study ( e.g - i study polity for a week incessantly and you study environment for 1 hour and eventually in prelims exam, the questions are more based on environment for that given year. another example - i finish ancient and modern history but you read medieval and in that given year more questions are from science and economy. ) isiliye moderation is important too. Any given day we wont be able to wrap everything and recall everything coz our brains have their carrying capacity too. Too much overload and days will sail in procrastination. Hence explore diverse things through daily current affairs, what is happening around us, this will add to cognitive alertness.

As for parents, they love us and they don't judge us. So kindly don't feel embarrassed about anything ( we don't have to answer to any of the foolish elements in the society who are always in search of opportunities to drag us down. We are giving this exam only for ourselves and we are our own competition. We may also avoid comparing marks and focus on personal growth please. Keep a clean progressive study-focused company. Another suggestion is to get more involved with the Insights community/ aspirants. If we be truthful to ourselves and sustain the good spirit of prep along with being helpful to others, being kind, generous, thankful and compassionate towards others, the universe itself starts conspiring to help us. Jesus bless you.

It's possible dear ,u can work and study , clearing this exam is very easy .
Have the attitude of perseverance and positive thought.

Need any further guidance feel free to ask.

Meet u in LBSNAA

Hello Insights! Even Before the results were out I was sure that I was not clearing this time "again" for the second time.I have worked hard, somehow felt that I might actually clear it this time but no. I was devastated after I checked my answers to such an extent that it took a toll on my health(My health is fine now).I had sent an e-mail to Vinay Sir right after my exam as I was absolutely clueless.I'm still expecting a reply from Sir,I know he is very busy and I don't want to pester him. I belong from a city which is "not" a hub for CS. When I started this journey in 2018 I knew I might not clear it in the first go but 2020 CS exams I had some expectation even though I scored pretty low in the Test Series. I rely solely on Insights and I must Thank Insights for whatever little knowledge I have about UPSC.I have participated(still do) in the Daily Quizzes,RTM,75 days Plan,Secure Initiative and have got reply from you as well. Since UPSC is my ultimate goal I'm not considering to sit in exams of Banks,SSCs etc. Somewhere in some corner of my mind lingers a faint hope of clearing it this time,I'm going to triple my efforts, all I need is just a little guidance from you.My scores improved from my first attempt almost by 40 marks but I am nowhere near the cutoff. My parents were once proud of me but I guess it is different now.
It'd be great to have a reply from you and my name is Anushna Das(I have a different username because I'm shameful to share my real name)

Sir I too have same concern. I have prepared for this exam very religiously for 2 year but failed in my both my attempts. I am again preparing for my 3rd attempt after sinking in my failure for whole 1 week. This attempt is again about giving my 100%. But now I think I need to get financial independence also.
I am an engineering graduate. I am ready to do any kind of job with just one condition that I get enough time to prepare for this exam. I know there are other government jobs also like state PCS and many other but they again take too much of time and their results take even more time than 1 year. So they are not beneficial for the time being. But still my ultimate goal is UPSC.

I checked cut off with standard keys and scored above 110 in gs and 80 in csat. How did all standard keys go wrong in predicting correct Mark's? Does it mean that relying on coaching institutions keys may not be a safe scale to rely on? It was not on the borderline. There can be  cause for worry if you are on the border line.  But despite getting clear margin according to various keys and still not clearing prelims doesn't make any sense. I think there might be some hurried attitude in upsc to just finish paper correction in 20 days and give results.  Who knows whether there is some or not? Should we stop relying on checking coaching institute keys? How else can you be sure of taking up mains? Many people cannot afford to join test series simply without clearing prelims with a good margin. What went utterly wrong this time with coaching institute keys?

Same thing happened with me too. I went to UPSC. They made me write an application and said the response will be sent to your email. Still waiting for the 'sarkari' response.

I don't understand, the same has happened with me. What should we do? Have you approached anyone?

CSAT is the game changer. UPSC make CSAT very easy thus Cut off of pre exam go sky high. But if it is difficult Pre cut off would be very low.
CSAT is the game changer.

Sir

This was my last attempt at UPSC due to age, otherwise 2nd. I was on borderline as per insights key.   I have been preparing for last 1.5 years, I am too disheartened to not see my name in prelims list. Is there any hope that upsc will provide an extra attempt…
Please suggest what else can I do?
I almost fell in love with this preparation phase. I am feeling empty now.

Dear Peers and Insights team,
Yesterday after the results were out, there would have been so many calls to all of us from family, friends, relatives or whoever it may be. And this was my first attempt and obviously I couldn't make it,but I came here to write a piece for all of us who feels dejected right now,or feeling blank like what to do next? And this piece is for all of you like me.
Currently, this state of mind, pressure from all sides makes you to feel so much, that you could have made it,or should I run away from all these people? All these provoking thoughts will disturb you.But listen,my dear friends, listen to your heart,no one reaches the top of the ladder in day 1 itself,it may take some time, give yourself that own space and time. This journey has made us to be disciplined,to be courageous and not be feared of failures. It is okay to fail but it is not to think of it again and again and mourn.
Now this emptiness will take you to the fresh world, start again a fresh beginning, refrain with good thoughts, spend time on what you love. This calmness, depression, pressure from others will remain for a day but after that it's you who have to getup and do your work again.People will come, comment and go in your life. But it is your inner motivation and will power that it will take you ahead in this long journey.Every time you cannot see the light, there should be some darkness to see the bright light and now this phase is such a one, not darkness but to break you, heal you and gather all your strengths and come back again to the battle.
You may still think coz of your parents telling that you had left a good job,you could have been in this work you ll be earning this much, you wasted an year, all this sort of words we used to here after results, but think for a minute, they are our parents and they believe in us the most,so our failures dejects them most next to us and sometimes pressure from society pushes them to use such kind of words. But no parent really wants to use that, coz they need their children to achieve their dreams. So talk to them patiently and give them the belief and work with faith.
After all this, your friends working, enjoying weekends will call and ask about the results. Many may leave you between the journey but true ones will stick to you no matter what.Failure in this journey is not the end,as a person you evolve from this journey will help you to grow anywhere in this world.
Finally, talk to your soul,oh how long it has been ,you have talked with yourself?Mostly very rare , right!!Talk to yourself ,tell your heart that this failure is a lesson to me,and I ll run through this journey whatever it takes, oneday I ll talk to you from mussoorie my dear heart and say you that my Perseverance had brought me today!that soothes your soul.
And after all it's life my dear friends!Just smile:-) that can make you and others happy.
Get relaxed,do what you love and start a fresh beginning with a positive attitude:-)
This journey is the very beautiful phase of our life,Enjoy the process with the smile in face and heart.
Regards,
C.Ramadevi.

It's too difficult to digest 2nd consequtive term because of CSAT.. only after 2019 marks were out realised missed  writing mains by very little margin in CSAT. This time also I had clear strategy for GS1 and almost neglected CSAT it cost one more year.  It is difficult to face people and their enquiry about results. 2021 going to be my last attempt as I stated this preparation very late. Gaining all my strength to give my best hit this time. Insights CA, vinay sir's essay prepation strategy and ICAN initiative helping a lot for people like me those who are preparing from the remotest corner of this county.

Thanks a lot...

Dear anu,
Ur compassion attitude will make u grow further, person like only our country needs, now this time focus on ur studies ,u will do it , hatsoff for ur perseverance attitude .
All the best.

Dear sir ,thank u first of all for providing this platform .i didn't clear prelims this year due to various factor . First I took this attempt casually because I was in final year of graduation .Second and most genuinely i didn't wanted this exam badly which I think I have realised now . Third  absence of environment and peer group and no one around me to motivate when I feel low.Four lack of analysis of test series .Five I don't revised my test seris.
I have realised my mistake and sir I assure u and vow myself that I will correct my mistake next time whatever the situation may be.

Yes u will ,all the best

Dear Insights,
I was scoring 110-114 from various keys. I was borderline in CSAT. This was my 3rd attempt. It was devastating not to see my roll number in the list.

Before this attempt I had decided to cap my limit to 3. I will not reappear for I do not wish to go through this trauma all over again.

They say that when God closes one door, he opens another. I know that wherever I go from here, I will do well because of the strength and discipline that this journey gave me.

Thank you for everything @insights. Your daily current affairs, secure initiative and motivation kept me going. For an aspirant who is cut off from the world of social media and routine life,  working day in and day out , your words of encouragement mean everything. Especially Vinay sir. You are a wonderful mentor. I would watch all your videos and follow your posts on telegram. You always inspired me. I have not met you but you made a huge difference in me and my preparation.

I may be heartbroken and absolutely crushed today but I will get up and move forward.

Thank you once again,
A heart broken but determined *ex-aspirant.

Hey dude don't stop ur journey ,even any gates may opened for you ,don't cap urself on attempt ,as many aspirant seeking some extra attempt to get a chance again,u seems to be capable, just sit and do it again ,focus on the process ,as u said any doors may open in between ,but the door which u required will be open for sure AS IAS .
BE FIRM,ALL THE BEST.
