[IOTF DISCUSSION] How to clear Prelims-2021 with minimal efforts? 6351 Views
Dear Aspirants,
These days, CSE Prelims is becoming hyper-competitive. Even the experienced candidates are failing to clear it year after year efforts. But there are some freshers who are clearing in the first attempt only. CSP is not only a test of the range of information but also about your ability to connect to the dots, to identify the scoring areas and to develop some MCQ skills. Once you master the Objective type exams, you don't have to put more efforts into the successive attempts or to crack any other exams. Hence, try to approach the Prelims strategically. Read the Toppers articles. Discuss with your mentors. Put the efforts consistently.
To help you sharpen your Prelims preparation, we are bringing INSTA OPEN THREAD DISCUSSION with Kiran Pratoj Sir. He consistently scored Top marks in the Prelims and he has been mentoring aspirants in the InsightsIAS to help them clear the Prelims with a comfortable margin. We request you to use this opportunity to clear any of your doubts related to preparation.

Sir can you check one of my essay.. Actually I want to check how I was writing.. There is no one here to check and suggest me how to go.. Should I send here?
Hi Akshay,
POLITY:
a) After your first or second reading, try to identify the imp areas such as FR, FD, Parliament, SC etc. Try to link their interlinkage with other topics. Spend more time on these topics. Because the return on investment is high here.
b) Try to cover the appendices given at the end of the book - imp SC judgements, amendments, etc. It will help you in Mains as well.
c) Try to identify the Current Affairs which are related to basics, Presidential rule, SC judgements on issues, Appointment of Judges issue etc. Cover those critical issues in depth.
d) Polity is getting around 15 to 20 Qns in the last 3 to 4 years. And also it is imp from Mains perspective as well.
f) The Qns which are coming are logically connected ones. They are testing your conceptual clarity. Hence, in Polity it is not about the no. of times of revision you have completed, but about how in depth you are seeing the things.
g) Lastly, Try to cover the last 15 year PYQs of Polity. Static part won't change easily.

Hai sir,
Good evening.
How to approach INDIAN ECONOMY and POLITY... give me some brief idea or tricks...
Thank you, sir
Sir in insta revision plan, it is becoming too much time consuming to cover rtm + magazine as well. So, which one to leave.. I am thinking of rtm to go with..
The Plan is given to help you to cover the subjects holistically. you need to do things in a priorititive manner. Try to cover the things in which you have the gaps.

Hi Sachin,
In the next few weeks, you can attend one in 4 days, later on you can give two test per week. Its more important about the analysis part. There is no use if we start giving one test per day without analysis. Also, it depends on your backlogs.

Hello sir,
Good evening .Thanks for this thread.
How many days should be a ideal gap for Full mock test sir ?
Hello sirThank you for this threadI am confused that should use yearly compilations or monthly magazines for current affairsAndSecond I am scoring low in the test series. I dont know where I am laggingThank you
Dear Shashank,
Year book won't cover your CA. IYB is needed to cover some of the imp trivias related to govt, history, geo etc. You will get the gist of IYBs in the market. Try to memorise some facts from that.
You need to cover the Monthly magazine from June 2020. But if you're in a crunch of time, you can use the revision modules for wide coverage of the topics in a subject wise manner.
Try to check in which part you are getting low marks. If they are in static, try to finish fundamentals as soon as possible. if in CA, try to target key issues and cover them first. Also, one imp item you need to do is revision. You should do it in a consistent way. Then only info will sit in the memory.
Stress is good, if it is in optimal level.

SirI still didn't started the medieval history..Also not started revision for few subjects..Rest of the syllabus will be completed by April end...I'm thinking of revising the completed subjects instead of starting medieval historyShould I start reading medieval or proceed with revision by ignoring medieval history?
Hi Leela,
Medieval history is such a lengthy portion, you can not complete within few days or weeks. It is vast. And the Qns being asked are mostly factual. and if you observe the trend, most Qns are interlinked to A n C only. So what I Suggest is try to find some Med History gist/ summary notes. Finish it within 2 days. Learn only to get the flow of kingdoms and imp features. Atleast you should be in a position to do intelligent guessing. And leave the Factual Qns from that part. But, try to solve the PYQs of Med History. Read the solution in detail. You will come to know the imp areas.
Try to focus more on high yielding areas such as Polity, economy and Envi.

Hi Nitik,
Good Evening!
Leaving the Qn unattended is very important to reduce the negative marking. The ideal scenario is to attend 80 to 85 Qns, and leave 15 to 20 unattended, Provided you have a very good accuracy rate.
Which Qns to leave:
a) Which are too factual and you fail to logically estimate the range of info.
b) If there are too many unknown statements, like out of 4 to 5 statements, you know only one and you can not eliminate others. And if the combination of statements is too complex. Then it is good to leave.
c) Some low yielding areas are Art n Culture, medical history, and some obscure orgs etc.
And as you start giving the tests, you will start developing that habit of leaving poor scoring Qns.
